In July 2021, the vice-deans of FTA – dr. Jiří Hejkrlík and dr. Jana Mazancová, extended and formalized the cooperation between FTA and The Cooperative University of Kenya in Nairobi (CUK). The start of the collaboration is dated back to 2020 when the head of the Cooperative Research Team – dr. Jiří Hejkrlík had a kick-off meeting with dr. Silas K. Maiyo, Coordinator of Research and Innovation at CUK, but due to Covid-19 restrictions, was not profounded until now. During the visit, the opportunities in joint research, elaboration of joint proposals on mobilities and organisation of summer schools were discussed and agreed. The FTA vice-deans were accompanied by two students Gospel Iyoku (PhD candidate) and Barbora Růžičková (BSc student), who had a chance to stay longer and get familiar with teachers and their CUK peers.
During the same visit second memorandum was signed in the presence of the Dean of the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences and Agribusiness of the Pwani university in the Coastal province of Kenya Prof. Patterson P. Semenye. FTA/CZU has had a long-term collaboration with the local university especially due to the joint activities within the EU V4 development project focused on cashew production and value chain development. Now the collaboration will be also extended to other areas of the research and joint mobilities.
