BRT-Lab focuses on the research of anaerobic digestion processes. It is affiliated with the Biogas Research Team (as part of the Faculty of Tropical AgriSciences).
The laboratory is currently developing; however, it is already equipped with:
- 8× 2 liter anaerobic batch reactors;
- gas measuring devices (biogas composition control, such as Geotech BIOGAS 5000 or IEE-DEESL-INNOVA Photoacoustic Multi-Gas Infrared (IR) Analyzer; in addition other portable detectors for biogas composition as GASTiger200 for gases composition or testo 316-2-EX for detection of CH4);
- pH and Oxygen Redox Potential Meter; Soil analyzer pH;
- Kjeldahl analyzer for nitrogen determination;
- Electric centrifuge for sample separation SBS-LZ-4000/20-12;
- Digital Microscopes: Levenhuk D95L LCD and Dino-Lite Digital Microscope;
- Kern laboratory scales;
- FLIR TG267 thermal camera;
- Climatic Chamber KK 115 and a water bath to maintain a constant temperature.
Main areas of scientific research in the BRT laboratory:
- anaerobic digestion of waste;
- intensification of the methanogenesis process;
- biotesting of digestates for use in organic farming.
Within the framework of the laboratory, it is possible to conduct experiments on several laboratory stands: an anaerobic biogas generation unit and digestion of organic waste and plant residues, and a laboratory stand for biotesting the ecological effect of digestates on biological systems (in progress).
