What are the main constraints limiting antelope and giraffe of Western Africa to thrive, both in the protected areas and outside them? We aim to expand the understanding of large mammals’ ecology, interpret implications for practitioners, and provide the outputs of research to in situ conservation decision makers. We focus not only on the biological aspects but do consider the human dimensions as a key part of understanding of large mammals’ ecology. Human-wildlife and wildlife-livestock interactions are of a special concern to us.
- We expand the understanding of ecological and environmental conditions, and human-related factors in the Sudanian and Sudano-Guinean savannas and we apply niche modelling for assessment of suitable environment for the Western Derby eland in Senegal.
- Together with Giraffe Conservation Foundation we help to save the West African giraffe in Niger
- We explore the conservation challenges for korrigum and West African hartebeest in Pendjari NP, Benin in cooperation with African Parks
- We investigate the effectiveness of law enforcement and rangers’ and local communities’ perceptions on wildlife conservation and protected areas in Ghana.
