BeFair, active at the Czech University of Agriculture (CZU) since 2013, has become an integral part of the Faculty of Tropical Agriculture. It offers its members, who may also come from other faculties, a platform to promote the idea of Fairtrade and sustainable development. It also works closely with Fairtrade Czech Republic and Slovakia.
Objectives and activities
BeFair's main objective is to promote Fairtrade – a fair trade concept that ensures that products are sourced without the use of child labour and that farmers and their suppliers are properly rewarded financially. However, the association's work also encompasses broader themes such as sustainability, recycling, second-hand fashion and maximising the use of food. BeFair also promotes the ideas of alternative farming, community gardens, agroforestry and permaculture.
Education and Educational Events
BeFair members actively present their beliefs at elementary and high schools, as well as at various events hosted by the CFA. You can regularly meet them at open days or university markets.
One of the most important events of the association is the annual "Tropical Ball" held at the Faculty of Tropical Agriculture. This ball, now in its second year, offers refreshments prepared by international students, performances by student bands and competitions such as a pub quiz and a raffle with fairtrade prizes.
