Aim of the Project:
The V4 group joint project under the EU Trust Fund for Africa is focused on the reduction of migration through providing agricultural employment opportunities - by creating sustainable jobs and achieving food security based on primarily – cashew production, and secondarily - sesame production in the 3 coastal regions in Kenya experiencing 60 - 70% rate of poverty, affected by social, economic, and political instability, which has led to the marginalization of these coastal regions.
Outputs of the Project:
- To significantly increase the export and volume of production of organic and Fairtrade certified cashew, sesame and possibly other value chains, which will eventually increase revenues for the coastal economy.
- To empower smallholders cashew farmers by enhancing access to better market opportunities in the selected value chains.
- To increase social, political, and economic empowerment of participating communities, especially youths and women through a self – help group approach.
- To contribute to increase peace, stability and inclusive economic opportunities for target groups, especially youths in marginalized areas in the coastal region of Kenya.
- To strengthen resilience of communities and particularly the most vulnerable, improve governance and prevent conflict.
