International credit mobility: cooperation between Czechia and Senegal

The aim of the project is to support the mobility of students and teaching staff between the project partners, the Czech University of Life Sciences Prague (CZU) and the Cheikh Anta Diop University in Dakar (UCAD). The project targets primarily the strengthening the cooperation and education in the field of ecology of large mammals, conservation and management of populations of endangered species and protected areas management in sub-Saharan West Africa.

There are 11 mobilities divided as:

  • 4 students from UCAD to CZU for 4 months
  • 2 students from CZU to UCAD for 4 months

  • 2 teaching staff from UCAD to CZU for 2 weeks
  • 2 teaching staff from CZU to UCAD for 2 weeks
  • 1 traineeship for staff from UCAD to CZU fro 2 weeks

Mobility objectives

Students participating in mobility will gain new knowledge and new perspectives on the selected issues, new competencies and communication skills in English, as all studies at the Faculty of Tropical Agriculture (CZU) are in English, and skills in international cooperation and integration into multicultural teams. Teaching staff will increase the pedagogical and research competencies by participating in teaching and at the same time gain the opportunity with CZU experts to create an effective international network of experts to gain excellence at the academic level. They will consult on the possibilities of applying joint international projects or research grants.

Selection approach

Mobility will be implemented through persons responsible for international relations at the participating faculties or directly through the foreign department of the university. The faculty management together with the person responsible for international relations (vice-dean or head of the International relations department) are responsible for the selection of candidates for international mobility. The selection of candidates will begin in the period October-December 2020. The applications will be sent to each other between the partner universities and online interviews with selected candidates will be organized. The final list of candidates will be agreed between UCAD and CZU. The students' study plan or research plan will also be discussed and approved before the start of the mobility. Acquired ECTS credits at a partner university can be transferred to students in their study results at a home university.

Benefits and outputs of the cooperation

Mobility participants within the project will gain experience not only in the education and science, but also experience working in an international team, multicultural environment, teamwork and communication, increasing their planning and organizational competencies. During the implementation of stays abroad, their language skills will also increase, as all communication will take place in English. For students, these acquired experiences and skills play a key role in gaining future employment, as international experience is highly valued and preferred by employers today. Educators who participate in the internship abroad can ensure a higher quality of teaching for students, enrich their knowledge, gain practical experience, which they can pass on to their students, thus ensuring the so-called multiple effect. This will also increase the "image" of the university at the regional and national level. Mobility will also strengthen cooperation with partner organizations and create meaningful use of complementary expertise for future joint projects

In order to disseminate the results of the given mobility, participants will be invited to submit materials for promotion after their return, e.g. on the faculty and / or university web site, in the form of a university journal or Facebook. A meeting will be organized where students or educators share their experience with other applicants for international mobility at the faculty / university. Mobility project information will be placed in PR materials of the university (leaflets, promotional brochures of "international projects", university websites).
