All students enrolled at our master's degree study programme International Development and Agricultural Economics (IDAE) are expected to include Practical and Research Training into their study schedules. This course aims to enable students to gain practical experience in how agricultural economics principles are used in research and development areas at various institutions. As a result, students acquire hands-on experience with the organisation and management of the chosen institution, joining existing teams in ongoing activities, assisting in solving specific tasks etc.
A chosen institution should be relevant to the IDAE-related environment. It could be partner universities, research institutes, private companies, governmental or non-governmental organisations, farmers' associations, etc. The selection process should be done in cooperation with the thesis supervisor, who is also (co-)signing all necessary documents.
Apart from the internship, it is also possible to accept a student's active participation in an ongoing project, writing research and/or mobility grant proposal, presenting master's thesis topic at the international conference etc.
Practical and Research Training is the obligatory 5-ECTS course. Thus, the total duration of the internship should equal 120 hours in total, while the remaining five hours are expected to be spent on necessary administration and reporting. It is also possible to conduct training at once or in blocks and to combine various organisations. However, completion of the internship may not interfere with students' participation in classes.
More information can be found in the attached documents on the IDAE website and discussed at Scientific Seminars.
