FTA staff contributing to enhancing the educational and research activities at the Hawassa University in Ethiopia

Our employees Marie Kalousová, Barbora Černá Bolfíková, Iva Bernáthová, Stacy Hammond and Anna Chládová recently returned from Ethiopia where they conducted activities within the project “Publication and Research Activities Development for Education in Life Sciences at Hawassa University”.

Two trainings “Molecular ecology of animals” and “Molecular genetics of plants” were delivered to students and staff from Hawassa University.  Both trainings included theoretical lectures, practical trainings in the laboratory and an amazing 3-days field trip to Bale Mountains National Park to observe the unique afroalpine habitat inhabited by endemic species such as the Giant lobelia (Lobelia rhynchopetalum) Ethiopian wolf (Canis simensis) and Mountain nyala (Tragelaphus buxtoni). Our colleague Stacy Hammond, together with researchers from HU worked in the laboratory on the establishment of In-Vitro Propagation of Capsicum annum L. (Chili Pepper).

Check out some photos from beautiful Ethiopia.
