Garcinia kola Heckel (Clusiaceae) is a multipurpose tree with significant cultural and economic relevance, primarily used as a medicinal plant in West and Central Africa. Although the domestication process is still in its early stages, most current research is laboratory-based, overlooking fields that can directly support the species’ development. Our recently published study in the journal Genetic Resources and Crop Evolution (IF: 2.0; Q2 in Agronomy, Q3 in Plant Sciences) described G. kola tree-to-tree morphological variation in Cameroon and identified plus trees indicating the potential species’ ideotype, thus representing a crucial step forward in G. kola domestication.
