On October 22th 2019, Czech University of Life Sciences Prague was hosting a meeting with Mr. René Castro Salazar, Assistant-Director-General of the Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and leader of the Climate, Biodiversity, Land and Water Department.
The highlights of the meeting were introducing CZU and links between the university and FAO and exploring ways for collaboration in future. The meeting attendants also discussed the possibilities for doctoral students to participate in research activities and internships in FAO. As the main topics for possible cooperation between the two institutions, we identified hydrologic extremes, land biodiversity, challenges in forestry management, food security, climate change and its impact on farmers worldwide. CZU has been engaging with FAO through several activities on a long-term basis, e.g. regular contributions to Family Farming Knowledge Platform (FFKP), coordination of YPARD Europe or participation on METROFOOD-RI etc.
