Biogas Research Team could not be missing at the Expo 2020 in Dubai

In October 2021 one of the members of Biogas Research Team – Ing. Ghaith Hasan visited Expo 2020 in Dubai. Here you can read his report.

Under the slogan: “Connecting Minds, Creating the Future,” Dubai hosted the Expo 2020, which runs from October 1, 2021 to March 31, 2022. Since the first Expo in 1851, which was known as the “Great Exhibition”, Expos are still one of the largest and most important international events. Over the course of six months, Expos attract millions of visitors who discover the participants' pavilions, and the various events organized by the participants, including countries, companies, international organizations and educational institutions.

The Expo site was distinguished by its idea of sustainability. From recycling to promoting natural solutions and emphasizing a commitment to the environment, protecting the planet for future generations.

The exhibition includes many events related to the environment, such as:

  • Theme weeks addressing global challenges Climate & Biodiversity: highlights the solutions on how to manage climate change and protect biodiversity and aims to build a clear roadmap towards a more sustainable future. (03-09 October).
  • Urban & Rural Development week (31 October-6 November): The main headlines of the activities are: reimagine the cities of tomorrow, making cities smarter, safer, greener – a blueprint for our urban future, harness local knowledge, deploying homegrown solutions to catalyze more livable communities, build habitats for life, changing the way we live to protect the places we call home.
  • The third theme week which is related to the faculty's interests is the Food, Agriculture & Livelihoods week (17 - 23 Feb, 2022) which will focus on how do we sustainably grow food to meet future demand.

EXPO 2020 OBJECTIVES

The peoples of the world dedicate their efforts unleashing their imaginations to solving the most prominent challenges of the era, starting with opening the doors of development opportunities for future generations, passing through the reformulation of the mechanism of movement of people and goods, to finding sustainable solutions to conserve energy and water resources. The world today is witnessing new innovations covering various aspects of life, which one would not have even imagined five years ago.

Czech Republic Pavilion in Expo 2020 (Czech spring):

Biogas Research Team has participated in different activities in the exhibition, this picture taken from the Czech pavilion shows the sculpture Venus which was created in the ateliers of the company Crystal Caviar and weighs an impressive 243 kg with a diameter of 88 cm. According to the Czech Book of Records, it is the world's largest polished bohemian crystal sculpture.

The Czech Republic aims to scent the world with spring and present a better, sustainable future. What distinguishes the Czech spring is the heart and core of the pavilion- the technological marvel S.A.W.E.R., which can independently create an oasis in the desert, producing water from the air using only solar energy. on 2200 square meters and 140 pages of the publication, the Czech Republic presents several exceptional patents. dozens of Czech universities and hundreds of companies, astounding technologies and complemented by splendid pieces of art all in the name of future and made in the Czech Republic.

The picture shows the real application of the SAWER devices.

Worth mentioning is also Czech company GreeenTech, which participated in the Expo activities. The company focuses on cultivation without soil in a controlled environment, which brings many advantages – up to perhaps 95% savings in water consumption and significantly shortening transport distances, the possibility of growing without protective sprays, and rapid plant growth. This company is having several alumni from Faculty of Tropical AgriSciences as well among founders and employees.
