The inter-departmental commission appointed by the Dean's Board of the FTA selected the following best Master’s thesis of students from the AFS, WLM, SRD, IDAE, TCME and TFA programs.
1st Place | Prize of the Minister of Agriculture of the Czech Republic |
Name of the student: |
Alba Andrés Criado |
Supervisor: | doc. Ing. Karolína Brandlová, Ph.D. |
Name of the thesis: | Small-carnivores population survey in Southern Namibia |
Study programme: | Wildlife and Livestock Production, Management and Conservation |
Evaluation: | The diploma thesis is one of the first attempts to scientifically capture the populations of small carnivores in southern Namibia. The work is very logically built, it uses photo traps to document the occurrence of individual species. The collected data are clearly statistically evaluated and use standard indicators for quantification of biodiversity. The results of the work not only have publication potential, but also represent essential material for improving the protection of these endangered species. |
2nd Place | Prize of the Rector of the Czech University of Life Sciences Prague |
Name of the student: |
Dita Mervartová |
Supervisor | doc. Ing. Bohdan Lojka, Ph.D. |
Name of the thesis: | Genetic diversity of aguaje (Mauritia flexuosa) in Peruvian and Ecuadorian Amazon |
Study programme: | Tropical Forestry and Agroforestry |
Evaluation: | The diploma thesis deals with the use of local species in the Peruvian and Ecuadorian Amazon, specifically the aguaje palm. Products of this species are used by households living in the area, but also for sale, processing and subsequent export. However, an unsustainable way of collecting aguaje fruit leads to a threat to the entire population and a decline in diversity. The aim of the work was to compare the genetic diversity between and within populations of this species with the help of SSR markers. |
Members of the committee: Ing. Olga Leuner, Ph.D., Ing. Klára Urbanová, Ph.D., prof. RNDr. Pavla Hejcmanová, Ph.D., Ing. Vladimír Verner, Ph.D.

Congratulations to the winners and we wish them many successes not only in science but also in personal life.
